Since 1937, Ray’s has been the meeting place of the famous and not-so
famous to exchange ideas, to fight the battles of time, while enjoying great
drink, food and friendship. At Ray’s we offer one hundred & sixty (160)
beers
in the
bottle, sixty (60)
beers on
draft, a great
wine selection and vast
array of liquor to satisfy one’s taste. Ray’s, the time is now……..
Speaking about beer, a drink of practical common sense, we must eschew high flown phraseology.

Beer once tasted like something. It was made out of malt and
hops and yeast and pure filtered water….Nowadays it is often
made of such gook as rice and corn grits…When some brewers
started to use rice in the product, all was finished. A dreary potion
resulted; and worse, a corrupt taste…most beer that’s pushed across
the plank these days is nothing but dirty water. It’s so light and
clear it’s nothing….ignoble swill.

Beer has come to be acknowledged as the national beverage of
England. At a recent Conference of Brewers, Lord Burton claimed
that his country won its high and proud position among the
nations of the Earth simply on the account of its characteristic
dietary, “beef and beer.” Whereupon someone made the waggish
comment, “Why drag in the beef?”

Let us now speak of beer…By art invented
Which makes miracles and wonders…
It makes strong men creep
Makes men shout high in the street.
Such virtues has the barley juice.
The beer made of malt, that headgear of a rooster
Keeps it color without vermillion.
Here this matter rests,
Let us speak on something else.
-Treatise of Walter Biblesworth,
Norman-French, 13th Century
Many battles have been fought and won by soldiers nourished
on beer.

Great
