Will be stopping at "Rays" Sunday night (12-30-01). My wife and I used to party in Kent in the late 60's. (under age of course) Anyone able to remember: Fifth Quarter, Dome, JB's, etc? After 35 years, Kent is still our greatest memories! I was actually home on leave (USMC) on May 4, 1970. As bad as those days seemed, it's way better than today. We wouldn't trade the 60's for any era! Miss the "Browns" in a big way!

One of playboys top 100! When I worked for Buddy and Mary I never expected to see something like this.Hey Charlie, can I cash a check? Sent you some great beer posters years back. I hope they helped you sell some of those export beers.I may have the choice of good drugs and great beers here, but I can't get a Molsen Golden in a frosted mug.It is 18 years that I have been back in America, I'd love to here from some of you old farts. And Cowboy, I want to hear from you. You've gotten as big as me when I see the party pics

I'm going through detox being so far away from Kent. I've been putting a steady diet of perfectly poured Black and Golds in my system by the Ray's staff for three years now. Now I'm in Italy stuck with crappy wine and hairy women. See you at Christmas Ray's!

My fondest memories of college all involved Ray's Place. I had my first legal beer there and later I worked the door for two years. It was the most fun I ever had at a job ever! Wednesday nights were particularly great as that, of course, was toy night. But it was also the night that the waitresses from BC's Bus Stop all came to Ray's PLace to unwind. The BC's chicks, as they were known, were the nicest, friendliest, sexiest women I have ever met in my life!

Well, I relived the life alrighty - my goofy yet altogether wonderful boyfriend took me, my family, and his family there to unite them and remember our first date at Rays... and what do you know, the cast and crew of KSU's "Desperate for a Date" showed up to say hi and film his proposal. What a great day! The life has been lived...

1)Being located in Kent, the stupidity of Akron dose not waft over, thus reducing your patrons to inbred,webtoed,quasi-toothed yokels, and

Never thought I'd miss KSU, Kent, Ray's - - but after a year in the big D, I do. Don't get me wrong, Dallas is great - but my friend, one can only tolerate SO MANY 65 degree sunny days. There comes a time when all you need is a bleak dreary 34 degree Ohio day, a big-ass sweatshirt, and a gathering at Rays.
I'll be there the 23rd this month to relive the life.

Thanks Charlie! Your the best, brother! By the way did you find my socks? Cuz I sure lost 'em that weekend.
TC, thanks for taking my keys. Passing out on that couch at the after hours party on Linden Street brought back those fond memories from the Ray's Place years.
Got some great pictures from the party, which I will send over the net once I scan and load them into a file.
Hope to see you all for the 21st.

i was trying to figure out a reason to go back to kent for my senior year, after spending a summer in washington dc. the night life in dc is nothing like i've ever seen, and i couldn't figure out where i was going to find the same kind of food, drinks and atmosphere in kent. after reading all of these posts, and checking out the site, looks like you'll find me at Ray's a couple nights a week this fall and next spring!

You know, whenever my "evil genius" cohorts (Pete Jack Ryan and "The Great Szatkowski")and myself are sitting around, reflecting lovingly on our days of conquering the world of psuedo-journalism, we have to pause a moment, take a sip of our respective beverages (Corona, a snifter of Gossamer Bay wine and a luke-warm bottle of Guinness maple syrup ...uh, beer) and cackle at our own lame villainy. We also know that we would be nothing without ...our own sheer brilliance ...and, of course, Ray's Place in Kent. That wheel o'fun at Ray's has changed me for the better and has certainly melted this otherwise stodgy curmudgeon's icy heart. Any way I can get one of them there drinking wheels for my apartment? Until next time: C-ya! Get Rocked!!!

I can't believe I stumbled upon a Ray's Place website! Just like I stumbled out of Ray's on many a night. I bartended there in 1978, about the same time they opened Mother's. Ray's is one of my favorite, foggy memories of Kent. It marked me for life. I know my liver will never be the same. I had such a good time there I had to quit school and spent the next 12 years bartending all over the U.S. I was at Ray's when it was owned by Buddy and Mary Locicero. Buddy also went by the name Charlie at times, is that the same guy as the Charlie mentioned here? I even would up working for them at "Mc T's", their place on Sanibel Island, FL. If any of the rest of you were around in those days drop me a line sometime. I'm so glad to see the place is still going strong.

Mooseheads, how goes it? I'm psyched to lose what else is left from my mind. I think I lost my mind upstairs at Mother's in the corner of the bar. And I want to add, not only was Charlie one of the greatest bosses, but Ray's/Mother's was one of the greatest places to work -- especially in those wild and crazy late 70's. If you're one of those mooseheads from then, I'd love to hear from you. :-)

Hey Uncle Charlie!
I've been trying to find this page forever! I think I just kept entering the wrong address and I finally just did a web search. When I finally found it, I was ecstatic. I was like, "Yeah, this is my Uncle Charlie's place!!!" and I showed my friend Sanja.
I hope you actually check this page and get this! E-mail me when you do.

Hey Guys!!! How is everyone? I was afraid you all were dead considering I haven't heard from any of you, with the exception of two or three of you crazy cats. Law school is a drag, miss the good old days in Kent. Colorado "ain't all that" without my buds at Rays. (Hey Charlie, I bet a Ray's Place out here would do pretty well!!) Well, I've got to go study, again. Miss and Love you all! (even though you don't write)

Glad to see you guys are on the Web! Just a little more notoriety for you guys. When I was in Key West recently, I got a lot of comments on my Ray's T-shirt -- you guys are known the world over.
Just one question: Can you mail me a Mo-Fo and some wet fries?
I look forward to getting back within the friendly confines of Ray's sometime soon.

How strange that on May 4th I found this site. I spent 22 years in Kent before moving here to Oklahoma. And I have been to Ray's MANY times and have lots of memories. Norman reminds me of Kent, as we also are a college town. I miss the beautifull trees that are in Kent and green grass but I don't miss the winters!!! The campus at The University of Oklahoma also reminds me of Kent State as they planted many tress years ago and they are now very large. I love Norman and the state of Oklahoma as the people are the nicest I have every met but Kent will alsays be home.
